Pakistan to continue to cooperate with world against terrorism: PM

Multan : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani repeated Pakistan’s offer of cooperation in investigations into Mumbai attacks saying the government will fully cooperate if any country, including India, shares information with us.

While addressing a big gathering of people at Circuit House on Wednesday, he said that Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies are investigating the outlawed organizations adding that Pakistan has its own law and was doing all this under the law of the land as per our strong commitment to war against terrorism.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan was a responsible nuclear state and wants to maintain friendly ties with neighbouring countries on the principle of equality.

He said that Pakistan shares the grief of bereaved families, who lost their loved ones in Mumbai attacks and added that country will cooperate in investigations to reach those who carried out Mumbai attacks.

Gilani said that Pakistan will continue to extend full cooperation to the international community to eliminate the menace of terrorism and reiterated commitment that Pakistan’s soil will not be allowed to be used by the terrorists.

The Prime Minister said, he salutes the political leadership who expressed solidarity to protect national interests while setting aside personal and party-based differences and the national media which played a positive role with responsibility and without provocation to help defuse tension.

Our political leadership has made it clear that nation stands united like a rock wall to protect the country, he added.

He said that armed forces of Pakistan are one of the best professional armies of the world and are fully equipped and capable to defend the motherland.

He said that political leadership, armed forces, civil and military bureaucracy have unanimity of views on issues of national interests.

The premier said that Pakistan is behaving like a responsible nation and wants to defuse tensions and maintain good ties with other countries.

The Prime Minister said that he has issued orders to begin work on mega project of Multan-Faisalabad Motorway, which, after completion, will prove to be a milestone in socio-economic uplift of the area.

He said that Rs 34 billion Benazir Income Support programme was providing much wanted relief to deserving poor families in managing their family budgets. It would be enhanced up to Rs 100 billion, provided it continues to support the deserving people as it is doing now and that Pakistan gets more assistance from the friendly countries, he added.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani announced to upgrade Multan airport as an international airport saying it will help boost quality mango export to other countries to fetch much wanted foreign exchange besides facilitating Hujjaj by operating direct Hajj flights.

He also announced to build Aimanwala Pattan Bridge, which will reduce travel distance from Karachi to Lahore by 100 kilometres.

The prime minister promised to build Head Muhammadwala saying that he has already issued directives to release initial grant to execute the project. He said that past governments only made promises to build Head Muhammadwala and added this government will give this facility to the people at all cost.

He said that government remains committed to provide all basic facilities to the people at their door step and added that government wants to strengthen the country and the national economy.

The Prime Minister said that government is sincere in taking all the coalition partners along and to counter the challenges through a joint effort.

He said that relief of reduction in oil prices in the international market was passed on to the people while prices of ghee have also been reduced following reduction in price of palm oil in the international market.

He ordered MNAs and MPAs to maintain regular contact with the people in their respective constituencies to know about their problems and help them out whenever they need assistance.

Gilani congratulated the people on the eve of Eidul Azha saying that the auspicious occasion carries the message of sacrifice. He said that Pakistani nation is a responsible nation which has offered sacrifices to protect sovereignty of the country and added it will continue to move forward with the same spirit.

He also congratulated the whole nation and PPP workers after UN conferred its highest human rights award to Benazir Bhutto, a leader of international stature.

He said that it was an international recognition of efforts made by Benazir Bhutto that helped Pakistan return to full-fledged democracy. He said that the award was also a recognition of sacrifices offered by party workers who, while following in the foot prints of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, suffered jail hardships, and detention at Shahi Qila but refused to compromise on question of democracy.

Earlier, the premier exchanged Eid greetings with hundreds of people at the Circuit House during which he also received applications from poor, orphan, women and disabled persons and ordered authorities concerned to help them out.
