According to sources, the U.S. State Department took the matter seriously and launched diplomatic initiatives to lower down temper in both the nuclear armed countries.

The sources also said that the State Department had no reason to believe that the call was hoax and pointed out that it was only one week after the call that the Indian authorities came out with the denials of making any such call by their External Affairs Minister to the President of Pakistan.

The sources, however, said that it does not serve any purpose to remain stuck to the controversy over the call being real or hoax and added the U.S. Administration considered the call real and worked to advise calm to both of its South Asian friends.
