Mohali (Punjab) : Despite an early hiccup after the loss of Virender Sehwag in the second over of the day, Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir steadied the Indian innings on the first day of the second Test match with England at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here Friday. India reached 134 for one at the tea break.
Both Dravid and Gambhir hit half centuries.
India crossed the 100-run mark in the 34th over of the innings and was 134 for one wicket in 53 overs at tea.
Gambhir was on 78 with ten fours and Dravid was on 50 with six fours.
It was Gambhir’s highest Test score against England; his previous highest was 66. Dravid hit his first fifty in nine innings.
The match started 20 minutes late due to bad light.
India faced early trouble after skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni chose to bat on winning the toss, with opener Virender Sehwag falling for a duck.
Sehwag, man of the match in the first Test in Chennai, was caught behind on nought by Matt Prior off Stuart Broad, in the second over of the match.
