Bhopal: Dr. Abdul Qaiyyum Khan, lecturer in Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, (AMU), has been awarded the prestigious Johnson & Johnson Fellowship by the Indian Orthopedic Association.
Prof. S. C. Goel, President of Indian Orthopedic Association awarded the certificate of completion of fellowship at the inaugural function of 53rd annual conference of Indian Orthopedic Association (IOACON-2008) at Bangalore.
This is the most prestigious Inland Fellowship of Indian Orthopedic Association given every year to two young orthopedic surgeons from teaching stream on the basis of their academic achievements.
Prof. M. K. A. Sherwani, chairman, Department of Surgery was the first orthopedic surgeon of this University to receive this prestigious fellowship.
According to a Press release issued by Zeeshan Ahmad, Assistant Public Relations’ Officer AMU, during the period of fellowship Dr. Khan visited various centres of orthopedic excellence in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Patna, Varanasi and New Delhi and gained knowledge of attitudes and philosophy of work including academic and orthopedic skills.
Dr. Khan is presently concentrating on the orthopedic oncology and the team of Prof. M. K. A. Sherwani and Dr. Abdul Qaiyyum Khan has successfully performed the first mega prosthetic knee and hip replacement in Uttar Pradesh for bone tumors. Since then a number of bone tumor patients have been benefited from different parts of the country from the mega prosthetic replacement surgery, the release stated.
