New Delhi : Delhi Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely has
directed department officials to follow zero-tolerance in maintenance of new
low-floor buses among other measures to provide better services to
commuters.
Lovely gave this direction after a meeting with all depot managers of Delhi
Transport Corporation (DTC). Senior DTC officials and Transport Commissioner
R.K. Verma also attended the meeting.
“The minister was informed that the supplier of these buses has not been
able to provide service as per provisions of the annual maintenance
contract,” said an official.
The government will take up this matter with supplier of these buses.
The transport minister also stressed the need for cleanliness in and outside
the buses, punctuality and uniform frequency on the routes.
“A large number of DTC drivers have been selected and newly appointed
incumbents would be joining after January 2009. This would enable the DTC to
ply a maximum number of buses on the roads,” Lovely said in a statement.
“Phasing out of the (privately operated) Blueline buses would start in April
2009. It would depend upon arrival of new buses,” he said.
The Delhi government would also concentrate on the DTC’s intra-city services
to enable commuters to travel in city buses instead of their personal
vehicles, he said.
