Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh police Wednesday seized two vehicles allegedly used by ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Shekhar Tiwari in the murder of government engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta in Auraiya town a week ago.
“A Tavera SUV and a Honda City car belonging to the MLA were seized from a private estate in Rania in rural Kanpur from where Tiwari was arrested Dec 25,” additional director general of police (law and order) Brij Lal told IANS here Wednesday afternoon.
“While the Tavera was definitely used in the killing, the Honda City was used by the MLA on the day after the murder when he was intercepted and arrested,” he said.
“We are still on the lookout for a Scorpio jeep allegedly used by Tiwari and his men on the night of Dec 23-24, when he stormed into the engineer’s house and lynched him,” the official added.
Meanwhile, forensic experts, who were sent to Auraiya only as late as Tuesday, have got down to gathering evidence from the scene of the crime, where they discovered a blood-soaked shirt and other clothes from the engineer’s house. They would also inspect the vehicles used in the killing, the police said.
According to the opposition, Tiwari and his musclemen killed Gupta Dec 24 in Auraiya, about 225 km from here, allegedly after he refused to pay Rs.5 million for Chief Minister Mayawati’s birthday bash.
