Battlefield Gaza

By Najam Gilani,

Those who wonder “why do they hate us” should endeavor to dig deeper for honest introspection in order to come to realistic conclusion, and also to find a solution to save the humanity from extinction, which very much seems a possibility due to ongoing brutal and ruthless savagery of innocent people in Palestine.

States like Israel and USA have their own reasoning (hidden agendas) to fight the war on terror, while terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda have their own justification for spreading terrorism. Unfortunately the victims of these wars will only be innocent civilians. Whether it’s 9/11 incident, London, Madrid or Mumbai train bombings or the ongoing ruthless air strikes on Gaza Strip, it all (is and) has been an act of terrorism by the terrorists organizations (states) in which less of guilty and more of innocent people lose their life.

The recent act of aggression by Israel against Hamas with a vow to teach them a lesson by changing the ground equation is nothing but an act of terror, whether it is committed in the name of self defense or whatever…

The powerful countries of the world who take pride in being labeled as super power and possible super powers have all issued the “polite request” to Israel to stop the offensive – as if that will work for it. Had it been some other country, not Israel, these powerful would have issued stern warnings and would have applied arm twisting measures – but then all these pressurizing policies are not applicable in the case of “favorite brother” of international politics.

Two and a half years ago in July 2006 Israel attacked Lebanon with a purpose of eliminating Hezbollah and rescuing its captured soldiers, it was again an act of sheer brutality and insanity in which less of Hezbollah men and more of innocent civilians lost their life.

The death itself, specially those of innocent kids and children’s are the most painful and frustrating experience; but if in addition to this agony when half of humanity (western world) prefers not to utter a word of condemnation against the aggressor and neither calls for an immediate ceasefire to the bloodshed then this calculated move by the powerful few brings frustration, anger, anguish for the rest of humanity.

Failure of western leaders (with few exceptions) in raising objection to this ruthless killing has again exposed their masked face. Almost like a pre-planned intention and tacit understanding the whole of G-8 (chosen few) countries have adopted silence; and whatever little statement is coming, it is implicit and diplomatic and has affirmed the Israeli action.

Western media that tirelessly preach around the world the virtues of civility, human rights, balance of power and proudly shouts about its sophisticated civilization, has this time (though not for the first time) acted as comrades to their G-8 masters by thoroughly ignoring the Israeli barbarism.

In this hour of Middle East crisis not much of (strong) condemnation has come from ordinary Muslim world. Their political weakness is a well known fact. They have not the required strength at their disposal to show an opposition to these mighty few; but the wealthy and prosperous Arab world, from whom the Muslim world in general and Arabs in particular expected a strong condemnation of this Israeli aggression remained in their palatial cocoon preferring to remain a mute spectator, in which they now have attained a sort of mastery.

Incompetent they have been right from the beginning but the fear of losing their kingdom has also made them impotent and cowardice. In the entire Muslim world especially among the Arabs this preferred silence will not go unnoticed.
