Sana’a : The first shipment of the UAE’s wheat assistance consignment to Yemen has arrived at Al Salif seaport of Hodeidah governorate. Some 70,000 tons of wheat were unloaded on Wednesday. The shipment is part of the 500,000 tons of wheat donated by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Yemen as a gift from the people of UAE to the Yemeni people to help improve living conditions there.
Abdullah Mattar Al Mazrouei, UAE Ambassador to Yemen, said that Shaikh Khalifa’s wheat aid underlines the deep-rooted fraternal ties between peoples of the UAE and Yemen. He hoped the assistance would contribute to alleviating living burden off the underprivileged group in Yemen. A committee headed by Yemeni Finance Minister Numan Al Suhaibi will oversee distribution of wheat to all governorates. About 1.5 million recipients under the Social Welfare Fund will receive the wheat. People affected by recent floods will also be entitled to their share.
