Ahmedabad : On the first day of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit Monday, Chief Minister Narendra Modi held one-on-one meetings with eight delegations, including from Britain and Japan.
Modi also held parleys with delegations from Mongolia, Oman, Commonwealth Business Council and Virginia Port Authority at the Science City grounds.
Hideaki Domichi, Japanese Ambassador to India, led his delegation and discussed the ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project that would emerge as a bridge of cooperation between Gujarat and Japan.
Modi also sought help from Japan for technological upgradation of Small and Medium Industries (SMEs) which his government has taken up in a big way.
A Mongolian delegation headed by Voroshilov Enkhbold called on Modi for possible investment in infrastructure projects such as IT and mines and minerals. Enkhbold expressed his keen desire to forge a bond with Gujarat.
Chairman of Oman’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries Khalil Alkhonji apprised Modi about cooperation in petroleum, petrochemicals and aluminium industries in Gujarat. These projects could help in creating downstream facilities and would help SMEs to a large extent, Alkhonji felt.
A Commonwealth delegation led by Mohan Kaul was keen to take up projects of solar energy in the Rann of Kutch, setting up of an IT software house in the GIFT City, and a ‘Million Mindset SEZ’. MoUs are expected to be signed in this regard Tuesday.
Modi spoke about Dholera SIR (Special Investment Region) when Tom Capozzi, MD, Virginia Port Authority, and a delegation under Nitin Sandesara, chairman and Managing Director, Sterling Biotech, expressed their desire to develop a new port in Gujarat for multi-utility purposes – like commerce, shipping and maritime commerce and a marine terminal. Virginia Port Authority is partner to the North-Dahej port development.
Ravi Parthasarathy, CMD of IL&FS, and Harishankaran and Sudhir Mankad of HDFC discussed in detail with Modi the development of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT)Project.
