Taipei : Taiwan’s judicial authorities Wednesday arrested a Presidential Office official on suspicion of leaking confident documents, a spokesman said.
“The Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office came to our office in the morning with a search warrant, and later took one of our colleagues away along with four sacks of related materials,” said Wang Yu-chi, spokesman of the Presidential Office.
He said the prosecutors alleged the aide leaked secret information related to the May 20 handover of power to President Ma Ying-jeou from his predecessor Chen Shui-bian.
He declined to say to who received the leaked information, but some local media speculated it could have been given to China.
The suspect, identified as Wang Jen-ping, was identified as a “specialist” in the Presidential Office.
