The exhibition, titled “Picasso: the multiple beauty”, is being organised to mark the 467th anniversary of the city’s foundation.

The art show at the Yucatan state capital will run for two months, Marisol Puerto, an official of the Merida City administration said, adding that, the engravings were provided by the Picasso Foundation in Malaga, Spain, the birthplace of the famous painter (1991-1973).

He said the artworks were collected over a period of five years and is now part of the city’s annual festival. The lithographs and engravings produced by the famous painter between 1906 and 1971 illustrate Picasso’s artistic
genius, he added.

Among the works on display are “Centauro y bacante” (1947), “Retrato de Leon Tolstoi” (1951), “Burdel, Charlatanas, con loro, Celestina y Degas” (1971), “Paloma y su muñeca, fondo negro” (1952) and “Dos mujeres desnudas” (1946).

Puerto hopes that the opportunity to get to know some of the work of a universally acclaimed artist up close, and free of charge, would help attract visitors to the exhibition.
