New Delhi : India celebrates its 60th Republic Day on Monday in the midst of a severe security problem following the Mumbai attacks that occurred on November 26 of last year, and the terrorist attack that happened yesterday morning.
This will also be the first time in Indian history that the prime minister does not attend, as Manmohan Singh recently underwent a successful heart bypass surgery from which he was recovering.
Indian forces had beefed up security after yesterday’s incident, where two suspected Pakistani militants were killed by Uttar Pradesh’s anti-terror squad (ATS) 30 kilometers from New Delhi.
The intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Uttar Police are in cooperation to guarantee the safety of lead officials and the public on the day of the celebration.
January 26, 1950 is one of the most important days in Indian history as it was on this day that the constitution of India came into force and the country became a truly self-governing state.
On this day, India became a totally republican entity and the first republican president was Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
