Kasaragod (Kerala) : C.H. Kunhambu, a Kerala Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) legislator whose daughter was abducted by suspected Hindu right wing activists near Mangalore town Friday, says he has no faith in the Karnataka police. Shruti, a Class 12 student of St. Aloysius College, and Shabib, brother of her classmate, were on their way to Mangalore from here when a group of men dragged them out of the bus. They were taken away in an autorickshaw and released after being beaten. Five people were arrested in the case a day later.
Kunhambu told IANS that he was shocked to hear from Karnataka Home Minister V.S.Acharaya that he was helpless and the parents needed to take care of their children.
“Is this the way a home minister who is responsible for the safety of a citizen speaks?” Kunhambu asked.
“I have lost faith in the Karnataka police and the manner in which they are investigating the case.”
He also said the Karnataka police have not arrested anyone in the interior village where his daughter was forcibly taken away in an autorickshaw.
“She was taken in a village about five kilometers from the place she was pulled out of the bus. In the village, there was a lady who appeared to have control of the village. This village is known to be heaven of the Sangh Parivar. I wish to know why the Karnataka police have not arrested anyone form the village,” Kunhambu said.
State president of the Yuva Morcha (the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party) K. Surendran told reporters here Sunday that the legislator was playing politics.
“It has now come to light that four of the five arrested are those who have affinity towards the CPI-M and it is a shame that a CPI-M legislator is doing this,” said Surendran.
