To keep Muslims out of SC category unconstitutional: Ejaz Ali

By RINA,

New Delhi: “It is a serious constitutional offence to keep Muslims out of the benefits of SC facilities solely on the basis of religion. It is also equivalent to the restrictions on the religious freedom of Dalits,” said Member of Parliament Dr. Ejaz Ali.

The Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre has failed to uplift the plight of Dalit Muslims in India by not extending to them the SC benefits during its five year rule although this demand is associated with the sentiments of Muslims.

“To tackle this issue no Constitutional amendment is required. Rather an amendment in 1950 Presidential Ordinance is sufficient. For this the Central Government can promulgate an ordinance”.

Talking about the initiative of the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in this regard Dr. Ali revealed, “These two states (U.P. and Bihar) play a decisive role in the making of the Prime Minister and Assemblies of both of these states have already passed Bill for reservation to Dalit and had sent the same to the Central government. But the Central government has not taken any notice of it till now”. Warning to the UPA, he said “If it contests the upcoming General Elections without resolving this issue then it has to face a tough challenge from the Muslims especially the Dalit Muslims”.
