Lucknow : Further investigations by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police have revealed that besides former travel ticket examiner Bedi Lal, there are other railway employees who were involved in the paper leakage scam, officials said Wednesday.
The revelations come following the arrest of 110 people from Jaipur and Bhopal Sunday for their involvement in leaking the Ajmer Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) paper scheduled on that day. Those arrested included 16 organisers and 94 candidates.
Lal, who was arrested December last year following a similar crackdown by the police, was out on bail last month and was allegedly again involved in leaking the RRB question papers. He is absconding.
According to STF sources, about 40 candidates out of those arrested Sunday came to Lucknow last week and met Lal who handed them the question papers.
“He handed them the papers at a secluded house in the Chinhat locality and asked them to leave Lucknow immediately. He also made arrangements for them to take a train to Jaipur from the Badshah Nagar railway station,” the STF source informed.
Lal then sent the question papers to Jaipur and Bhopal before the exams that was scheduled for Sunday. It was, however, cancelled after the scam came to light.
The police have found that some other railway employees are also involved in paper leak scams over the past few years.
“We have concrete evidence of involvement of some employees in Patna, Gorakhpur and Lucknow and we are also in the process of initiating legal action against them. We will be registering a criminal case against them,” Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Anand told IANS.
Earlier, the STF investigations also revealed that Lal has four houses in the upscale Gomti Nagar locality of the city worth millions of rupees and his assets that are way beyond his known sources of income are also under the scanner.
Railway sources also said Lal charged between Rs.400,000 and Rs.600,000 per candidate for “assured” selection in the railways and led a luxurious lifestyle.
Lal was fist nailed for leaking question papers in 2006 and was subsequently suspended. However, his suspension was soon revoked and since then his name has figured in at least half a dozen cases of paper leaks.
