A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan issued notices on a lawsuit by Indian Institute of Management (IIM) professor R. Murlidharan who questioned the advocates’ commitment to their profession, alleging that so far in 2009 advocates in the state have appeared in courts only for nine days.

The notices were issued a day after a mob of unruly lawyers threw rotten eggs at Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy for appearing in a Chennai court.
