Srinagar : Protests erupted here Tuesday following the mysterious death of an autorickshaw driver, who was a cousin of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front (JKLF) chief Muhammad Yasin Malik.
Bashir Ahmad Sheikh’s body was found in Bemina locality Tuesday morning.
“He had been strangled to death,” a local resident said.
Once the news of Bashir’s death spread in Maisuma locality where he lived, angry youth forced the closure of markets and raised slogans while marching towards the adjacent city centre Lal Chowk.
Police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel tried to stop the marchers, but did not use any force.
The protesters also forced the closure of the main Lal Chowk market, resulting in traffic jams and chaos in the area.
