Ghaziabad: A girl was beaten up and set on fire by four men, who accused her of having an affair, in Ghaziabad, police said Tuesday. She later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
The girl, Imrana Hakim (15) was at her house in the Tauri Tereh locality under Bhojpur police station of Ghaziabad, with her younger sister Monday. Her mother was working in the local fields while her father was out of town for some work, district police chief Akhil Kumar said.
At around 11.40 a.m., four men came to her house and caught a boy, with whom she was allegedly having an affair, as he was just about to enter her house and beat him up badly.
The assailants then entered her house and after verbally abusing the girls, grabbed Imrana’s younger sister and starting beating her. The four then beat up Imrana and when she tried to resist, they poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.
Imrana suffered almost 90 percent burns and was rushed to a local hospital where in the evening she died. The police was informed about the case only at about 4 p.m. by the girl’s father Abdul Hakim.
The police said the girl had given a statement before dying wherein she stated that four men, three of whom she identified as Mohammad Hashim, Mohammad Arif, and Jalees Ahmad, came to her house and beat her and her sister and then set her on fire.
“We have arrested Mohammad Hashim and Mohammad Arif. The two others are absconding, of them one is yet to be identified. They would be arrested soon,” Kumar said.
In another incident, a thirty-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws in the Kanhaiyapura area in Hapur Monday night, allegedly for dowry.
According to the woman’s father, Shashi was being harassed over dowry by her in-laws for quite long, and “they finally murdered her”.
However, the woman’s in-laws said she was preparing food in the kitchen when her clothes caught fire.
Shashi sustained almost 90 percent burns and was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi where she succumbed to injuries.
Originally a resident of Noida, Shashi married Bablu Darzi of Hapur about eight years back. She had two sons – Prince (5) and Deepanshu (3). While her in-laws denied burning her, her sons also said their mother was set to fire by their father Bablu and his parents.
The victim’s father has complained to the Hapur police, who were yet to register a case.
