Gandhinagar : Massive security arrangements are in place in Ahmedabad ahead of a rally to be addressed by Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Friday after an intelligence warning of a possible terror attack, a home department official said here Thursday.
“We have a report from the IB (Intelligence Bureau) advising extra care to protect the lives of the two leaders and the general public against a possible terrorist attack,” the official said.
The two leaders will hold a rally at Kankaria Football Ground in Ahmedabad.
“A number of CCTV cameras have already been installed which are hidden from the public view and the state’s borders have additional policemen checking each vehicle entering or leaving Gujarat,” he said.
“An estimated 2,500 personnel comprising State Reserve Police, Ahmedabad city police, traffic police, commando units, bomb squads and the Rapid Action Force have been deployed in and around the city.”
The police estimates that nearly 100,000 people will assemble for the rally.
Guests staying at various hotels and lodges in the city are being checked as a standard procedure besides monitoring of suspicious movements of people, particularly near the venue of the meeting, he added.
