Three-time BJP MP files nomination in Himachal

Shimla : Maheshwar Singh, three-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, filed his nomination papers from Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh Tuesday.

Maheshwar Singh, who is scion of the erstwhile Kullu ruling family, has been pitted against Virbhadra Singh, who belongs to the former royal family of Bushehr state.

While Maheshwar Singh is testing his luck for the fourth time in a row, former Congress chief minister Virbhadra Singh is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Mandi after a gap of 29 years. Virbhadra Singh is yet to file his nomination.

Virbhadra Singh’s wife Pratibha Singh is the sitting MP from Mandi. She defeated Maheshwar Singh by 66,566 votes in the last parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, another BJP candidate from the Shimla (Scheduled Castes) constituency Virender Kashyap also filed his nomination papers.

Virender Kashyap has been pitted against two-time Congress MP Dhani Ram Shandil, who won the last Lok Sabha elections defeating BJP candidate H.N. Kashyap by 108,180 votes. Shandil filed his nomination papers April 18.

Himachal Pradesh will go to the polls for its four Lok Sabha seats May 13.
