Ayodhya terror attack accused sent to jail

New Delhi : A Delhi court Monday sentenced a West Bengal man to seven-years rigorous imprisonment for providing logistical support to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists for attacking the make-shift Ram temple in Ayodhya in 2005.

Additional Sessions Judge Pratibha Rani also slapped a fine of Rs.1,000 on Abdul Baki Mandal, a resident of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

The court had April 25 held Mandal guilty under Section 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Mandal was accused of providing logistical support to five JeM terrorists who were killed in a gunbattle with paramilitary troopers July 5, 2005, when the militants tried to attack the make-shift temple in Ayodhya.

Mandal was arrested from the New Delhi Railway Station Nov 11, 2005.
