Eight Taliban guerrillas killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : Police have killed eight Taliban guerrillas in two separate clashes, Afghan officials said Tuesday.

Militants attacked a major government building in Gulistan district of the western Farah province early Tuesday, provincial police chief Abdul Rahman Sarjang said.

Four militants were killed and six injured in police retaliatory action, he said.

Four more insurgents were killed when they launched an assault on a checkpoint in the central Ghazni province Monday night, said Abdul Hayi, a police commander.

More than 3,900 people have been killed in Afghanistan this year in rising Taliban violence.
