Bhopal : Former legislator Lal Singh Arya of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been been called for questioning in the investigation of the murder of Gohad’s Congress legislator Makhanlal Jatav, who was shot dead April 13, police said Monday.
Arya, who has come under scanner since his mobile number was found in the call details of the mobile phone of Mevaram Sharma alias Pappu Pandit, the key suspect in the murder, has been asked to appear at the office of Bhind Superintendent of Police (SP), police sources said.
“There were a number of calls between the two, before and after, Jatav’s murder. However, neither the motive nor the role of the former BJP legislator is clear yet… the police is going to interrogate him since his numbers were found in details of Pappu’s cell phone records”, a senior police official told IANS on condition of anonymity.
“It is also being alleged that Arya and Jatav had a verbal spat on April 9, four days before the murder took place”.
Besides interrogating Arya, the Bhind police are going to subject Pappu Sharma to a polygraph test. He would be taken to the forensic lab in Ahmedabad for the test between May 11 and 16, said sources.
Jatav was shot from point blank range April 13 near Chharetav village in Bhind district when he was returning after canvassing for Dr Bhagirath Prasad, the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Bhind.
