School principal, peon in custody for demanding bribe

New Delhi: A city court Tuesday sent to 14-day judicial custody a principal and a peon of the Kendriya Vidyalaya School (KVS), who were arrested for demanding a bribe of Rs.10,000 from a man to ensure his daughter’s admission in the school.

R.K. Dass, the principal of the KVS at Dwarka here, and Shiv Lakhan, the peon, were arrested Monday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths after they were caught in a trap.

They were produced before the court of Special CBI Judge S.P. Garg, who remanded them in judicial custody till May 19.

According to the CBI, the agency received a complaint from Vipin Kumar Gupta that the school principal had demanded Rs.50,000 to ensure admission of his daughter Khushi Gupta to Class I at the school.

A case has been registered against the two under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.
