Tehran : Substitute Friday prayers leader of Tehran, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, said Friday that elections in Iran are the healthiest of their kind worldwide.
“Elections in Iran are the healthiest, the most democratic and the most glorious one of their kind worldwide,” said Ayatollah Jannati in his second Friday prayers sermon in Tehran University campus, while refuting claims that elections in Iran are not healthy.
Ayatollah Jannati, who is secretary of the powerful Guardian Council that oversees all national elections in Iran, told Tehrani Friday prayers worshippers that his Council is ready to ensure the 10th presidential elections on June 12 are held in a healthy manner and free of any fraud.
While calling for massive public turnout in the crucial event and election of the most qualified individual for the presidential post, the cleric called on the candidates running the presidential race to avoid backbiting and bickering, saying the elections morals should be observed by all the contenders.
Elsewhere in his address, Ayatollah Jannati held the US and the Zionist regime of Israel accountable for martyrdom of about 50 Iranian pilgrims in the Iraqi holy sites.
He also condemned massacre of 100 people in two Afghan villages, saying the US, the Zionist regime and their puppets such as al-Qaeda and Taliban are the “blood-soakers” that consider genocide as an art and advantage.
“There are thousand and one economic problems and crisis facing the US but the country’s officials again think on military build-up in countries far in the distance rather than trying to solve internal problems. This is harmful for them but they do not understand,” he added.
