Hyderabad : Veteran Congress leader and former Uttarakhand chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari was Wednesday sworn in as the 21st governor of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh High Court chief justice G.S. Singhvi administered the oath of office to Tiwari at a function attended by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, his cabinet colleagues and senior officials.
After the function, Tiwari, 82, left for Tirupati to offer prayers at the famous shrine of Lord Venkateshwara.
A full-time governor has been appointed for the southern state after a gap of 19 months. The last governor was SushilKumar Shinde, who resigned in January last year to join as minister in the union cabinet.
Rameswar Thakur, the governor of Orissa, was since holding additional charge of Andhra Pradesh. Thakur has now been appointed governor of Karnataka.
