New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed Jamia Millia Islamia to take up the application of Ziaur Rahman, an accused in the September 2008 Delhi serial blasts. Ziaur Rahman had approached the court challenging his expulsion from the university following his arrest in connection with the blast.
A single-judge bench has asked the Executive Council of Jamia Millia to take up his appeal pending before the council since April 2009.
Ziaur Rahman was arrested on September 21 last year, two days after the Batla House encounter in which two alleged terror suspects were killed. In the manhunt for the suspects of Delhi serial blasts (September 13), Ziaur Rahman was arrested from Jamia Nagar. He was doing graduation from Jamia Millia. Soon after his arrest, the university had announced legal aid to its students who were arrested in the Delhi blasts case. But at the same time his name was struck off the roll.
When the family failed to get any reason from the university authorities about his expulsion, they filed an application with the Executive Council in April. When the Council also did not respond over a month, his family approached the court.
