Ports along Kutch asked to warn ships of bad weather

Ahmedabad : Ports along the Kutch region in Gujarat’s northern coast have been asked by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue warning to ships about rough weather in the Arabian sea, a statement released here said Friday.

“The depression over northeast Arabian sea weakened into a well marked low pressure area over Kutch and the neighbourhood at 5.30 a.m. The low pressure would trigger fairly widespread rain or thundershower in the region with the visibility in the Kutch and neighbourhood maritime area likely to become from moderate to poor.

“The forecast for Gujarat’s coastal region have been that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Saurashtra-Kutch region and Diu during the next 24 hours,” the statement said.

“All the major and minor ports in Kutch have raised the port warnings to the vessels in the vicinity to be prepared for a ‘very rough sea’ and take suitable precautions,” the release said.
