Kerala to spend central madrasa grants on madrasa reforms

Kochi: The Kerala Government has begun measures to give permission for using the Madrasa grants allotted by the Central Government on madrasa reforms said Mr. MA Baby, Minister of Education, in the state Assembly. The Government has already spent nearly Rs. 3.24 crore in 2006-09 as per the Madrasa Renovation Project, he added.

Of the central government fund allotted for Madrasa reforms, Rs. 14.97 lakh is still with the state government, which is to be spent now. The government has forwarded 2330 applications for Madrasa reforms to the centre. It is also planning to reconstitute the grant-in-aid committee which selects madrasa, Mr. Baby added.

Those madrasas which have been running for three years and are registered as per the act of the central government, Madrasa Board, Wakf Board or NIOS can apply for renovation according to the Project.
