New Delhi:The country has around 15 per cent IPS officers from the reserved categories of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.
Amongst a total of 3,327 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, 485 officers are from the reserved category—328 from the SC and 157 from the ST.
“The total number of IPS officers serving in the country as on January 1, 2009 is 3,327,” Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken said in a written reply.
Out of the total number of IPS officers serving in the country, 949 are inducted in the Indian Police Service by promotion and 2,378 are recruited directly. Out of Direct Recruits, the officers belonging to SC category are 328 and ST category are 157, Maken said.
