Amethi : It came as a shock for ace Indian pace bowler R.P. Singh when Congress general secretary and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi walked past him without noticing him.
However, local leaders accompanying Gandhi drew his attention to this after which he approached Singh and had a brief chat with him. R.P. Singh hails from Rae Bareli, the constituency of Rahul’s mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
It happened during the inauguration ceremony of the Rajiv Gandhi Vidyapeeth, a primary school, in the Pakargaon village of the Tioli block in the Amethi constituency.
“RP was waiting anxiously at the VIP entrance of the venue when Rahulji walked past without noticing him. However, a couple of local leaders following him told him of RP’s presence after which he turned back and shook hands with him,” Munna Singh, a local leader, told IANS.
Both had a brief chat after which the cricketer left. Singh was in Amethi to visit an old temple, before participating in the Champions Trophy to be held in South Africa next month.
However, Singh maintained distance from the media and left the venue in a hurry.
Gandhi is on a three-day visit to his constituency since Monday.
