New Delhi: A city court Tuesday asked the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to pay a compensation of Rs. 19.93 lakh to the family of an employee killed in an accident involving the civic agency’s vehicle.
Ordering compensation in the nine-year-old accident case, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal Judge Reena Singh Nag asked the NDMC to pay Rs.1.99 million (Rs.19.93 lakh) to the widow of Ashok Kumar, employed as a truck driver with the NDMC. He was run over by another NDMC vehicle being driven in a negligent manner by his colleague Ram Chander on May 29, 2000.
Ashok was survived by his wife Babita and three minor children.
The court held that Ram Chander was guilty of driving in a rash manner and he and the civic agency cannot escape their responsibility of compensating the widow and the children of Ashok.
