New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia organized a dance performance by a troupe from Egypt last week at the open air theatre with over 4000 audience including students and staff of the university.
The Outreach Programme of JMI in collaboration with the India Arab Cultural Centre, and the Delhi Festival organized the dance performance. The 8-member troupe, including both men and women in equal numbers, performed a medley of traditional dances and songs at the open air theatre at Jamia Millia on 7 October.
Over 4000 people, including students and staff of the university and outside guests watched the performances in rapt attention. The Egyptian dancers performed folk dances that are still popular there. Some of the most popular numbers were those related to courtship and the mehndi ritual before the marriage ceremony.
