Patiala : With the arrest of six men here, Punjab Police Monday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang involved in bank robberies in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.
“This was an 11 member gang and we arrested six of them yesterday (Sunday). Now we are raiding various places to nab the rest of the robbers. This gang had committed three bank robberies in Haryana and two such robberies in Himachal Pradesh,” Inspector General (Patiala range) P.S. Gill told reporters.
“We had got a tip off that this gang was planning a similar heist in Punjab. Working on this information, we laid a trap and arrested them. We have also impounded two cars with fake registration numbers, five revolvers and many live cartridges from their possession. So far, they had looted nearly Rs.50 lakh from the banks and we have recovered Rs.28.5 lakh from them,” he said.
Talking about their modus operandi, Gill said: “All of them were petty criminals in the past and many cases are pending against them in various police stations. They came in contact with each other while they were lodged in a jail and they formed their gang. They used to bring weapons and cars from Rajasthan which they used while committing robbery.”
Patiala is around 70 km from state capital Chandigarh.
