New Delhi : A city court Thursday sent Kobad Ghandy, the arrested leader of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) outfit, to 14 days in judicial custody after expiry of his police remand.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja sent Ghandy to judicial custody till Oct 29.
The court also partially heard the bail application filed on his behalf and slated the next hearing for Oct 20.
The 63-year-old London-educated Ghandy, arrested here Sep 21, was residing in a rented house in south Delhi and was allegedly working to set up a base for the Maoists in the capital.
Ghandy, whose release was demanded by Maoists in exchange for abducted Jharkhand police official Francis Induwar, had been sent to police custody till Oct 15.
Maoists beheaded Induwar Oct 6 and dumped his body off Jharkhand’s Ranchi-Bundu highway.
