“We have been able to evolve a credible and sustainable national energy efficiency agenda to stimulate a market transformation in favour of energy efficient technologies and products,” Shinde said while delivering the keynote address at the ministerial forum of the International Energy Agency (IEE) here Thursday.

The 28-member IEE comprises mainly developed nations. India, China and Russia – all non-members – have been invited as partners in the dialogue.

Shinde said the government has been able to save energy of 10.7 billion kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to an avoided capacity addition of 2,128 MW, by implementing policies and programmes on energy efficiency.

“An independent agency has verified that we have been able to save about 10.7 billion kilowatt hours of energy,” he said.

Shinde is leading an Indian delegation to the ministerial meeting.
