Agitation at AMU student murder: V-C appeals for peace

New Delhi: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis has appealed to the group of agitating students not to cause any inconvenience to the public by interrupting ‘public sphere.’ A group of students is sitting on dharna to protest the killing of an AMU student yesterday.

To take stock of the prevailing situation afresh, the V-C today held a review meeting with the Deans and chairmen of the University departments of study today. He has expressed confidence that good sense will prevail and nothing is done that put the public to hardships.

Despite some attempts to cause disruption of teaching, the classes were held peacefully in most of the faculties of the University.

Meanwhile, it has been decided that the Deans and Chairmen of the various departments of study will continue the dialogue with the group of agitating students sitting on dharna until the issue is resolved.
Shahnawaz Alam, a student of B.Sc. III year of the University, was killed outside the campus yesterday.

The University has already announced to offer a job to a family member of the deceased. It has also decided to raise a fund from staff and students for the bereaved family.
