New Delhi: Three days after Maulana Muhammad Wali Rahmani, eminent religious leader and Sajjada Nasheen, Khanqah Munger, publicly condemned former Union Minister and RJD leader Ali Ashraf Fatmi for his statement on the proposed Central Madrasa Board, the politician has taken a U-turn, now favoring the opinion of Ulema in setting up the board.

Former Minister of State for HRD Fatmi had said that the Central government should not come under pressure by Ulema in regard with the proposed Central Madrasa Board. Strongly reacting over the statement, Maulana Rahmani had condemned the minister and asked him if he wanted that Ulema should not open mouth even on the issue of madrasa education and this issue too be left to teachers of colleges and universities.

Now Fatmi, who represented Darbhanga constituency in the Lok Sabha before losing the last elections, has said today that without taking Ulema into confidence the madrasa board cannot be formed as only they will have say in preparation of syllabus. He said he is in favor of the board but not without taking Ulema into confidence. He said the board will help in mainstreaming madrasa students and opening large job avenues for them.

Maulana Rahmani who runs Jamia Rahmani in Munger and several other madrasa authorities and top seminaries including Darul Uloom Deoband and Nadwatul Ulema have rejected the central government’s proposed madrasa board apprehending state intervention in the religious education.
