Guwahati: Delivering keynote address in people’s convention on union government’s Minority Development Plan held in the capital city of Guwahati, Maulana Wali Rahmani said, “The guideline prepared by the union government to spend money in name of minorities is such that it will fetch no benefits to Muslims.” He urged the community to have an eye on the implementation of minority welfare schemes.
Distinguished Ulema, professors, doctors and engineers from 13 districts of Assam having minority concentration participated in deliberations on the provisions of the plan. Union government has sanctioned Rs. 3780 crore to be spent on minorities’ welfare in 90 minority concentrated districts of the country. But some hitch is reported in the guideline framed by the government.
Giving an example of misuse of the money sanctioned for minorities, Maulana Wali Rahmani said, “Construction of 339 school buildings has been approved in Manipur State alone whereas only 27 educational buildings have been Okayed by the ministry in the whole of the country.”
Responding to grievances expressed in the meet, Maulana Wali Rahmani said, “You should jointly watch the implementation of these schemes. The task will bear fruits if you have a network.” Giving an example of educational scholarships that requires a bank account, even as opening bank account is not possible at all places, he said, “The easiest way to solve such tangles is keeping on eye on all welfare schemes of the government.”
Maulana Wali Rahmani invited the audienceto attend a larger convention to be held in the Convention Center of Jamia Hamdard on November 22, which was readily accepted voluntarily.
