Kolkata: The Maoist-backed People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) called a 72-hour shutdown in Jhargram in West Bengal from Thursday to protest police action on villagers who had taken out a rally demanding the withdrawal of joint security forces from Lalgarh region.
A private vehicle was set afire by the protesters in Jhargram sub division.
“A private jeep, which was parked beside its owner’s house, was set on fire by a group of people at Jamboni area,” West Midnapore police superintendent M.K. Verma told IANS.
The strike affected normal life in the region. “We’ve taken adequate measures to maintain law and order in the district,” Verma said.
