Bangalore: A million people would court arrest in March, coinciding with parliament’s budget session, as part of the agitation against rising prices, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta claimed Saturday.
A ‘Bharat Bandh’ or nation-wide shutdown is also planned for February or March, Dasgupta told a rally here.
Dasgupta, a Lok Sabha member, and CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan accused the Congress-led government at New Delhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Karnataka of supporting a free-market economy which was responsible for rising prices.
The rally was held ahead of meetings of CPI’s national executive and national council.
The executive met Saturday. The two-day council meet begins here Sunday.
