New Delhi : Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday said the recommendations of the 13th Finance Commission, which submitted its report to President Pratibha Patil earlier in the day, will be tabled in parliament.
“There is a system. We have to go according to that. The report will be tabled in parliament as per the system,” Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
According to a finance ministry official, the commission’s report would be tabled in parliament in the upcoming budget session early next year.
Earlier Wednesday, commission chairman and former finance secretary Vijay Kelkar, along with other members, met President Patil and briefed her on the recommendations contained in the report.
The report, which will be forwarded by the finance ministry to the cabinet before it is tabled in parliament, covers the period between 2010 and 2015, and was to have been submitted by Dec 31, 2009.
The commission was constituted to determine the sharing of tax revenues between the central and the state governments as well as to make recommendations on related issues.
Under the terms of reference of the report, the commission had also been asked to look into a new Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) roadmap for 2010 to 2015.
The FRBM Act was enacted by parliament in 2003 to bring in fiscal discipline.
