Islamabad : Pakistani Taliban have arrested a staffer of APTN cameraman in North Waziristan tribal region, officials in the region said Thursday.
Muhammad Arshad was taken away by the armed Taliban while he was filming in Miranshah, the center of North Waziristan, on Monday, a Taliban spokesman Ahmadullah Ahmadi said.
Ahmadi said that Taliban had banned entry of non-local journalists in North Waziristan and they must take permission from the militants before their arrival.
Arshad belongs to Rawalpindi and a source in the AP (Associated Press) office in Islamabad said that Arshad is working in the Master Control Room of the APTN.
The Taliban spokesman said that they have seized camera from the arrested man and the camera had APTN sticker.
Taliban sources said they are searching for his local colleagues of the APTN staffer who have fled after the arrest.
Arshad told Taliban that he was guided by the local AP correspondents and cameraman to Miranshah Bazar.
An AP Islamabad statement said Arshad had worked as free lance for APTN and Global Media but currently he was not assigned any professional work.
Local administration also confirmed that Taliban had taken into custody a non-local man from Miranshah but they do not have any details about the man.
The Taliban spokesman said that they will investigate the APTN man as to why he was filming in the tribal region.
