Lucknow: The Railways Ministry has allocated a sum of Rs.1,288 crore towards various projects in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa said Thursday.
“The projects include upgradation of the Lucknow railway station for which we have earmarked a sum of Rs.10 crore,” he said at a press conference here.
“You will see a transformed Lucknow railway station within the next one year,” Muniyappa said.
Asked about the “sub-standard food” served by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), he said the ministry was “already aware of that and is trying to evolve a new catering policy to improve the quality of food and services”.
Among the other projects being undertaken in the state were electrification of the Lucknow-Sultanpur route, additional loop lines between Lucknow and Saharanpur, development of Prayag Ghat terminal, laying of a third line between Aligarh and Ghaziabad, besides laying of double lines on several other routes.
Muniyappa also agreed to give serious consideration to a demand raised by Uttar Pradesh Press Correspondents Committee for allowing issue of electronic tickets against concession cards issued to accredited correspondents.
“I will take this up with IRCTC as it would affect journalists across the country,” he said.
