The US national has been identified as Winston Marshall. He was detained Wednesday as he was preparing to fly on a Qatar Airways flight to Doha.

“During the security check, we found a knife in his baggage. When we questioned him, he could not give any reason so he was detained and handed over to the police,” a security official at the airport told IANS.

The police refused to comment on whether Marshall was linked to any terror suspect.

“He is in custody of FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) and has been sent to Lampur detention centre. Intelligence Bureau has already interrogated him. The US embassy has been informed about him,” a senior police officer told IANS.

“The police has found irregularities in his travel related documents. However, no FIR (first information report) has been registered against him till now for carrying a knife. A complete inquiry is being conducted in the matter,” the officer added.
