New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Thursday sealed one more illegal mobile phones tower in central Delhi. Over 220 such illegal mobile phone towers have already been sealed across the city by the corporation.
“One illegal mobile tower was sealed in the Karol Bagh Zone. Mobile operators have also removed at least 10 illegal towers themselves. The total number of towers sealed in this zone now stands at 32,” said a senior MCD official.
“More towers will be sealed tomorrow (Friday),” he added.
MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra Wednesday directed the officials of all 12 MCD zones to take necessary measures to seal 1,532 unauthorised cellphone towers across the national capital.
The civic agency had issued notices to mobile companies on their illegal towers. However, the operators reportedly did not reply to many of those notices.
As per the MCD estimates, there are around 2,500 illegal towers in the national capital. The MCD has sealed at least 226 towers in the past few days.
Last month, the MCD had cleared a new policy for mobile towers in the city and given mobile operators one month’s time to apply for regularisation of their illegal towers. However, a lot of them have not applied.
