Raipur : As many as 60 Chhattisgarh legislators, including Chief Minister Raman Singh, and their spouses took the holy dip in the Ganga Sunday in Haridwar, where they flew down in a private jet Saturday to attend the Kumbh mela.
“We took a dip in the Ganga and prayed for the prosperity of Chhattisgarh and its speedy development. It is a rare religious trip for all of us,” Brijmohan Agrawal, religious and culture minister, told IANS over phone from Haridwar.
Those who took the dip included 43 of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 49 legislators and 17 of the opposition Congress’ total 39 legislators.
The team, led by Chief Minister Raman Singh and assembly speaker Dharamlal Kaushik, included nine ministers. They left for the “Kumbh snan” (holy dip) Saturday from Raipur with their spouses in a special jet arranged by the state government.
