Though the session is planned May 17-21, the dates would only be finalised after the confirmation of the president’s schedule, an official told IANS.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the house’s business advisory committee Saturday as per the desire of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He wanted “productive discussion” should take place between the government and opposition to make agriculture more profitable and achieve the vision of a “golden Madhya Pradesh”.

However, senior Congress legislator and former minister Govind Singh said he has urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur not to give assent for convening a special assembly session.

“A special session is called under extraordinary circumstances. The tradition of convening special sessions is to take speedy decisions in case of an emergency, epidemic or grave circumstances confronting internal security,” he said, adding the state government does not evince keen interest in ensuring adequate sittings of the house in the the normal course and is now planning a special session.
