Dubai : Bidders from 13 countries competed against one another for diamonds and decorative jewellery at leading auction house Christie’s sale here which fetched over $8.5 million (31 million dirhams).
A 17 carat rectangular diamond ring fetched the highest price and sold for $1.3 million, while a 26 carat yellow diamond ring sold for $722,500.
A selection of watches sold for more than $1 million, with a Patek Philippe timepiece fetching the top price of $278,500.
Collectors from around the world seized the opportunity to bid for exceptional pieces, Tim Bourne, international co-director of Christie’s watch department said Thursday while David Warren, director of jewellery for Christie’s Dubai, described the Emirates as a “vibrant and energetic new centre” for the ornaments.
