Shimla : Himachal Pradesh has decided to set up recycling units at all 12 district headquarters for optimal use of waste paper in government offices.
“All the 12 towns will soon have a paper recycling unit to scientifically manage waste paper. The recycled paper will be used for making file covers for office use,” a government spokesperson said.
He said the decision to install the recycling units was taken after the success of a similar unit set up for trial in the state secretariat here.
To reduce the impact of plastic waste on environment, the government has already announced a scheme to buy back waste from civic agencies.
Under the scheme, the government will buy plastic waste from urban civic agencies at Rs.3 per kg, apart from handling charges.
The government will provide fiscal incentives to panchayats, civic agencies and individuals for facilitating collection of plastic waste in their respective areas.
The government imposed a total ban on the use of plastic bags Oct 2, 2009.
